The number 3 and 4 shots of are off a large male that was across the road about 100 yards away tearing the top out of a large tree's changed foliage apart in search of grub/s. Female Bear guarding cub at the base of a tree back in the foliage she sent up for protection. Shot hand held and at ISO1600 due to low light, but wanted to risk blur with a slower shutter speed in order to reduce the noise from shooting at ISO3200.

Female Bear back in the foliage beneath a tree along the side of the road. At the top of the tree was her cub sent up for protection and she was guarding the bottom of the tree. The cub did not appear to be hungry, nor did it appear to be concern that there were people near by. I was obvious that the female was placing herself between the people and the cub. Just up the road a way we found a large male. He could have been the source of the mother's concern. Shot hand held and at ISO 3200.
Young cub that was sent up this tree for its protection by the mother bear. After awhile it quit peering around a the onlookers and put its head on its paw and fell asleep. The bear was shot a ISO320 and Jpeg while most of the other shots were in RAW. The camera was set to the 'Twilight Mood' function. While hand holding, it fires off 6 shots in rapid succession and the makes a composite of the six.
Male Black Bear in top of large tree on the Roaring Fork Creek Nature Trail around Gatlinburg, TN. It was about 100 yards back into the woods in a tall tree. In one of the Gatlinburg info pieces on black bears in said when it got close to hibernation time, in the absence of other food, the black bears would eat leaves. This is exactly what the large male seemed to be doing while tearing the top of the tree from limb to limb. He climbed and descended that tree very, very rapidly. The camera was tripod mounted and the camera was set to ISO800. This male was in better light, but the higher ISO was to increase the shutter speed to compensate for his rapid movements.
