The Egret young are getting close to begin leaving the nest. The Roseate Spoonbills are waiting in the wings for the Egrets to move out. Some Tri-colored Heron have begun to leave the nest. Part of trial using large(FF) and small sensor(SS) mode and with and without 1.4x teleconverter(TC). Their is a Veery Thrush toward the end of the gallery, my first.

Birds of High Island Wk. of 04/27/09 : This represents an overview of the non-wading/shore birds observed at High Island during the week of April 27, 2009. Some were shot from the blind at Boy Scout Woods, while others in the woods at Smith Oaks close to the Rookery and by the Winnie St. entrance. I photographed my first Yellow Warbler in the woods close to Winnie St. entrance. The budding birder in me wanted to include it in this gallery. The photographer in me cautioned against it.

Smith Oaks Rookery @ High Island on 4/7/09 : Braving beginnings of pneumonia, but only happens a few weeks a year. Egrets still nest building, but laying and hatching. Roseatte Spoonbills waiting on the Egrets nests. In the mean time the spoonbills play 'tag you're it, 'hide and go seek', 'here we go round the mulberry bush,' and other playground games. I did see a couple takin' some serious showers. There are plenty of alligators waiting for lunch to fall from the sky.
