Anahuac NWR Galleries

Anahuac NWR on 082009 : Judy and I went to visit Anahauc National Wildlife Refuge yesterday afternoon. Decided to go and see after hearing a report from Jay Magnum. Looks like the Federal dollars are building duck ponds and blinds. Not a lot of progress in cleaning up and repairing damage around the auto-trail as a result of IKE. Most of the large open areas of water have been allowed to dry up. Claims are that the are waiting for large rainstorms to wash away the saltcake left from IKE's tidal surge. I definitely saw more birds than last month. I hope you enjoy the photographs of birds, the site, and the journey, and the journal.

Barn Swallows of Anahuac NWR & Assc. 5/28/09 : The Barn Swallows that were making their nests in the eaves of the kiosk for registration at Anahuac have all have been qualified for flight. Some though spend a lot of time on the tarmac. The really neat thing though, is that when a young one is down and disabled it isn't just it's parents that help in getting it airborne.
