Seabrook 110509 - The Ospreys - Fishin', Flyin', and Friends : Returned to the lake between Todville Rd. and 146 in Seabrook. Met Dave Billingsley and Dennis Dorcey. My purpose for the day was to try to improve on techniques for shooting the Osprey's fish-catching sequences. A day of surprises and wonder.

Mocking Bird vs Swainson's Hawk : Took grandsons, Jacob(8) and Joey(15), to shoot pictures and the San Jacinto Monument on 102509. As we turned onto Independence Prkwy. from 225, Jacob pointed out a hawk flying over the field on the left. Got a few shots of it flying. After visiting the San Jacinto Monument, we a hawk perched along side the road. The hawk was being attacked by a pair of mocking birds that seemed to think the tree the hawk was perched by was their territory.

Seabrook Mallards on 110509 : Went to Seabrook to photograph birds of prey in flight and feeding. At times I felt I was part of an elaborate conard. What a contrast. The Osprey smacking the waters of the lake with diving speed of up to 100 mph while Mallards gently swim and quack along the shore.

Your Bio

Aubrey Cruse III (Acruseiii@aol.com)

I was born in 1939. That was close enough to the Great Depression to grow up learning to appreciate everything that was on your plate. Also, it was at the beginning of WWII.

I was married after high school and Judy and I have 3 sons, and 5 grandchildren.

My work career was all at one pulp and fine paper manufacturing site owned first by Champion Papers and then by Simpson Papers. My work there covered forty years all on the location where my great grandfather operated a farm before the land was bought for the mill site, and a little prior to that, Santa Anna was captured while escaping after the battle of San Jacinto.

After retiring in February of 1999 at 59, I began trying to understand one of the rules of Peter Senge' in his "5th Discipline," I am not my job. I taught some at San Jacinto College North and South campuses. In 2002, I enrolled at UHCL to complete my degree graduating Summa Cum Laude with a BBA in Business Management. I must say that an elective in Drawing for Non-Art Majors was a highlight of that experience.

I have been interested in photography since the early 1950s. During the late '80s and early '90s I spent a considerable amount of liesure time pushing oil around canvas at first and then linen enjoying both portraits from models and plein-air landscapes.

In June of 2008, a friend of mine introduced me to bird photography and I have become a lifelong learner and lover ever since. I have even tried to introduce several of my grandsons to the art.
